McGuires Irish Pub has the very
best burgers in Destin
The best burger honors belong to McGuires Irish Pub in Destin. Actually, they have a lot of great food, but their burgers are the absolute best.
From the moment that you enter the establishment, you know that this will be a unique dining experience. Perhaps the first thing you might notice is that there are a lot of one-dollar bills everywhere! Visitors have signed them and they are stapled or taped to every overhead surface. The owners report that there are more than $500,000 on display, signed by Irishmen of all nationalities. I am sure they will find room for one more when you add yours.
The atmosphere or theme is of a New York Irish Saloon, complete with live Irish entertainment in the evenings. During the daytime, they play a music track of lots of Irish music. What would a saloon be without beer? Well, McGuire's is also a micro-brewery and they brew five regular beers and a seasonal selection. They also make a very popular draft root beer served right out of the keg! That is my favorite lunchtime beverage when I visit there during workdays.
McGuires is arguably one of the top restaurants in Florida, having been recognized by Florida Trend Magazine with the Golden Spoon Award for the past 13 years, and Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for the past eleven years. Southern Living Magazine says they're famous for steaks. They are also really skilled at preparing seafood dishes. As you would expect, they serve traditional Irish fare, such as corned beef and cabbage, shepherd's pie, rosemary scented Irish lamb stew and many other Irish specialties.
All the above is great, but I have zeroed in on their burgers. They have more than 25 varieties of their monstrous ¾ pound gourmet steak burger. My favorite is the Fiery Chopped Jalapeno Steak Burger. I also have some Senate bean soup, which when ordered with any meal is only 18 cents!
Recently, an airmen stationed at nearby Eglin AFB made the newspaper for having ordered every burger variety, including the Grand Burger. The burgers are typically $10, with the notable exception of the Grand Burger, which is $100. For your $100, you get a burger made from Filet Mignon, Caviar and a Grand Magnum of Moet and Chandon White Star Champagne (according to their menu).
Sometimes, we just get the Nathan McGuire's Supreme Nachos and share it. It appears to be about 10" tall and can tame 2 or more people's appetite.
If you visit McGuires during the evening, be prepared to participate in the evening's festivities. I bet you won't be able to resist joining in and singing with the crowd!
